Overview

Designed and delivered role-specific training packages and leadership programs for Hastings Deering, Queensland's largest Caterpillar dealership. Conducted training needs analyses and built development programs for technical and leadership staff.

Hastings Deering was my first corporate learning role. The company is the largest Caterpillar dealership in Queensland, with staff ranging from diesel mechanics to branch managers. My job was to design training that actually changed behaviour, not just ticked compliance boxes.

I conducted training needs analyses across branches, designed role-specific training packages, and delivered leadership development programs. The work was practical and results-oriented: if a program did not improve performance, it got reworked.

The job taught me the difference between training that looks good and training that works. The instructional design principles I picked up here show up in every curriculum document I write now.
